The scientist spoke about the properties of the drug for COVID-19 based on antibodies

A drug against coronavirus infection based on monoclonal antibodies will be effective both against the old SARS-CoV-2 strain and against Delta and Omicron, said Vladimir Gushchin, head of the laboratory for the mechanisms of population variability of pathogenic microorganisms at the Gamaleya Center, in an interview with RT.

The scientist explained that the use of monoclonal antibodies is a way to passively immunize people who do not have their own antibodies, who have not been vaccinated and have not previously encountered coronavirus.

He added that the "antibody cocktail" is selected in such a way that it retains its activity against as many strains as possible.

Gushchin noted that before clinical trials, such drugs can be updated for new variants of the virus by adding virus-neutralizing antibodies. You cannot change the formula of a registered drug, but you can create a new one.

Earlier, Gunzburg spoke about a new coronavirus vaccine that does not contain a live virus and will protect against several variants of the virus at once.

Scientists have published the results of an additional study of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine.
