Parking lot to be built in Canada on the site of a park dedicated to those killed in World War II

The Ottawa City Planning Committee approved the construction of a parking lot at the site of the Queen Juliana Memorial Park. It is reported by the CBC.

The expansion of the hospital territory and the construction of a new parking lot may begin in the near future, but the final project will be ready only by 2028. At the same time, it is planned to build a parking lot next to the medical facility by 2024.

The memorial park was founded in memory of the Canadians who died during World War II during the liberation of the Netherlands from fascism. Juliana, who at that time was the heiress to the throne of Holland, moved with her family to Canada during the occupation and became a symbol of rallying the nation against the invaders.

Eco-activists expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the government of the Canadian capital.

“This park was built to commemorate the sacrifice of Canadian soldiers who died in World War II, and also as a sign of good relations between the peoples of Canada and the Netherlands. The city council's decision directly contradicts the government's stated policy of creating a comfortable and green urban environment,” said Green Party MP Elizabeth May.

Earlier, netizens condemned the girl for a photo shoot at the memorial to the victims of the Holocaust.
