Pope warns against war in the steppes of Eastern Europe

Pope Francis expressed regret that humanity, having achieved success in science, philosophy and other fields, is retreating in matters of peace, preferring war to it. The pontiff said this at a meeting with representatives of the Eastern Churches, TASS reports with reference to the press service of the Holy See.

According to him, wars are a cause of shame for everyone.

“We hoped that we would not have to repeat this in the third millennium. But we see bloodshed in conflicts in the Middle East, in Syria and Iraq, powerful menacing winds blow in the steppes of Eastern Europe, kindling fire with weapons, leaving cold in the hearts of the innocent,” said Pope Francis.

Earlier, the Pope of Rome, in a letter to the chairman of the World Union of Old Believers, Leonid Sevastyanov and his wife, opera singer Svetlana Kasyan, called the possible war between the West and Russia discussed in the press "crazy".

Since the autumn of last year, the Western media, as well as in Ukraine, have been claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine. In Moscow, such allegations have been repeatedly rejected.
