Six detainees during the riots, held in a pre-trial detention center, died - according to preliminary data, due to "unauthorized methods of interrogation," the KazTAG agency reports.

“Literally the other day we accepted criminal cases on the facts of the use of unlawful interrogation methods. Not all such cases were handed over to us, but only in cases where serious consequences were recorded, more precisely, the death of detainees. According to our information, under such circumstances, two people died in the Almaty temporary detention center, three in the East Kazakhstan region and one person in Taldykorgan,” said Rizabek Ozharov, head of the special prosecutors service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

He specified that the prosecutor's office was investigating a case of torture and violence against the residents of Taldykorgan.

“According to these facts, investigations are ongoing, we will definitely inform about their results. But I can say that such crimes are not of a mass nature, ”Ozharov explained.
