Osteoporosis is a serious disease that often leads to complications and disability.

“Surgeries for connecting bone fragments with the help of external and intraosseous implants in patients with osteoporosis are associated with a high risk of complications due to unstable internal fixation of the implant,” says Sergey Tverdokhlebov, head of the international scientific project, associate professor at the Weinberg Research and Education Center of TPU. - Therefore, in many cases, patients with osteoporosis require repeated surgical intervention.

Scientists have found a way to improve the fixation and healing of bone fractures in patients with osteoporosis. The application of calcium phosphate coatings to the surface of titanium implants allows them to be effectively integrated into the bone tissue.

“With the help of the developed technique, hybrid composite coatings of osteostimulating implants were made and their physical and chemical properties were studied,” said Anna Kozelskaya, a participant in the project.

Research into promising coatings will continue.
