Russia has invented a railway drone for snow fighting

In Russia, a patent was registered for a mobile robotic device on a combined course for defrosting and removing ice from railway tracks. The relevant documents are published on the website of Rospatent, I found out.

The railway drone can be used “in conditions of a limited amount of available human resources, in an unfavorable radiation environment, in harsh climatic conditions, to remove ice from railway tracks, to fight snow with abysses and ice in permafrost conditions,” the patent description says.

The unit consists of a combined rubber tracked chassis and rail cart, vertically adjustable snow plow, rotary sweeper, defrost fluid reservoir, and fluid supply and spray equipment.

Under the control of the operator, the device drives on a caterpillar track onto the railway tracks, after which, at the command of the operator, it is installed on a mobile undercarriage. The operator, who, due to various sensors and a tablet control panel, sees the state of the superstructure of the track, can be both on the device itself and near it.

The authors of the patent claim that their device will significantly reduce the time and human resources for the implementation of the removal of ice from the railway, reduce the number of derailments of rolling stock and provide throughput in permafrost conditions.

Earlier it was reported that Rolls-Royce would stop buying Russian titanium.
