Russia - Chelyabinsk teacher convicted of taking bribes worth 1.7 million rubles

Russia (bbabo.net) - Today, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court of Appeal issued a decision on the criminal case of the former head of the Ural State University of Physical Culture, accused of taking bribes from students. The verdict came into force.

“It has been established that from 2013 to 2020, the convict received more than 1.7 million rubles from university students for passing exams and tests without actually attending sessions, attending theoretical and practical classes,” said Natalia Mamaeva, a representative of the prosecutor’s office.

Earlier, the teacher was sentenced to four and a half years in a general regime colony. And the higher court approved it. His actions are qualified under the article on bribery in significant and large amounts, which provides for punishment for a term of seven to 12 years.

It is worth noting that the teacher himself, due to his age and state of health, asked to replace his punishment with a suspended sentence. However, the court dismissed his appeal.
