Russia - Scientists have received the material of the future for electronic devices

Russia (bbabo.net), - Scientists at South Ural State University have obtained a new material with the structure of perovskite, and assessed how a change in the chemical composition affects its physical properties. Innovation can be in demand in electronic devices. In particular, self-calibrating temperature sensors can be developed on its basis, the press service of the university reported.

"Materials of the future" refers to high-entropy materials consisting of five or more components of the same concentration. In the crystal growth laboratory, scientists replace one of the sublattice cations in the perovskite structure with five or more components, so that the final material acquires unique physical properties. A recent study has determined how the rare earth ions lanthanum, samarium, europium, and gadolinium affect perovskite structure and electrical conductivity.

- The uniqueness of the approach lies in the fact that we obtain completely new materials in various ways, which no one has produced before us, let alone investigated, - said Vladimir Zhivulin, head of the laboratory. - By understanding how each element of a complex structure affects the properties of the compound as a whole, we will be able to create materials with predetermined properties.

Perovskite was obtained by solid phase synthesis. After studying its structure and elemental composition and measuring its electrical conductivity, scientists found that it can be controlled by changing the number and composition of substituting elements.

By changing the chemical composition, other properties of materialso be adjusted. And such studies are already underway, and not only with perovskite.
