Turkey fights discrimination against women in employment

Turkey will make efforts to boost women's employment in a country where it still lags far behind men's employment, according to the Daily Sabah.

Now the Institute of Public Security, established with the support of the European Union, will contribute to the solution of this problem.

The organization will encourage employers to hire women by paying 320 euros a month for each new employee. The business financial motivation project is designed for 32 months.

This is necessary because women are more likely to suffer from discrimination in employment than the stronger sex. Employers fear that the birth of children and the subsequent care of them will make the employee disabled for a long period of time and lead to losses.

At the moment, a pilot version of the project has been launched, which will not operate throughout Turkey, but only in regions where the unemployment rate among women is highest: in the provinces of Sanlıurfa, Aydin, Kahramanmaras, Samsun, Denizli, Ankara and Istanbul. In case of a successful result, the geography of the project will be expanded.
