The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for the Republic of Khakassia recalled that the operation of vehicles with unreadable, forged or installed with violations of the state registration plates is prohibited. The department explained under what conditions license plates are recognized as unreadable.

In accordance with Part 1 of Art. 12.2. Administrative Code for driving a vehicle with unreadable license plates provides for administrative liability of drivers in the amount of 500 rubles. A fine can be obtained if at least one of the letters or numbers of the rear state registration plate is not read from a distance of 20 meters at night, and in the daytime - front or rear, the traffic police said.

"Since the illegibility of state registration plates seriously complicates the work of traffic police inspectors to identify offenders on the roads, including drivers who fled from the scene of an accident, the police pay special attention to this," the ministry's press service noted.

Earlier, State Duma deputy Yaroslav Nilov urged not to fine for dirty license plates because of the snow porridge on the roads. Nevertheless, according to him, now the traffic police officers are loyal to drivers with dirty numbers during bad weather conditions.
