Azerbaijan reports transfer of 10 prisoners of war to Armenia through EU mediation

The State Commission on the Affairs of Captives, Missing Persons and Hostages of Azerbaijan announced the transfer of 10 military personnel to Armenia through the mediation of the EU, TASS reports.

The ministry indicated that this was done as a result of the trilateral meeting of the EU President Charles Michel with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels on December 14 and a bilateral meeting on December 19.

The mentioned servicemen were detained on November 16 "while preventing a provocation by the Armenian armed forces in the Kalbajar direction," it was noted in Baku.

Prior to that, it was reported that Baku exchanged 10 prisoners of war of the Armenian Armed Forces for maps of minefields of territories under the control of Azerbaijan.

Fighting in the Karabakh conflict zone resumed on September 27, 2020. On the night of November 10, the leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia adopted a trilateral statement on a ceasefire and the deployment of Russian peacekeepers, as well as the transfer of a number of regions (Agdam region, Kelbajar region, Lachin region) in the Azerbaijan region.
