Honoring the Day of Russia 65 marathoners crossed the Amur Bay

Honoring the Day of Russia a marathon swim is running in the Amur Bay. The conditions are extreme because of wind, fast flow, and low water temperature.

According to Nikolai Lutoshkin, the event participant, the water temperature in the Bay is warm in the range of 200 meters from the shore only, but in depth it’s cold — about 10 degrees Celsius.

The majority of swimmers are amateurs. Some of them are the members of the Pacific Fleet, the rest of them are fans of underwater hunting, while others are just trying to test themselves as swimmers in cold sea water.

The claimed distance from Cape Peschanyj, where the marathon has been started, to Vladivostok is 13 kilometers on straight line. However, there are lots of underwater flows in the Amur Bay and the weather is not comfortable for the swimmers, so the distance could even double. The winners of the marathon to be announced soon.
