On Tuesday, as the weather forecasters of the Hydrometeorological Center remind, the astronomical winter starts. This means that the Sun will slowly make its turn towards the Northern Hemisphere. After that, the length of the day will begin to slowly increase. And frosts gain momentum.

As explained in the Hydrometeorological Center, a deep and extensive cyclone, which came to European Russia the day before, opened the way for air from northern latitudes and added tropospheric cold (air masses from the lower atmosphere). The combination of these two factors will provide an increase in frost. From December 21 to December 24, very cold weather will set in the center of the country, with a delay of 8-15 degrees from the norm.

Already next night, the temperature in the capital region will drop to minus 19-24 degrees. Light snow will pass. During the day, not higher than minus 16-18 degrees, in the region up to minus 21 degrees.

On Wednesday there will be a peak of frost. Light snow will fall in some places. At night in Moscow up to minus 24, in the region up to minus 27 degrees. During the day in Moscow minus 18-20, in the region up to minus 23 degrees.

The hydrometeorological center also warns that heavy snowfalls are expected in places in Karachay-Cherkessia on December 21 and 22. From 21 to 25 December in the Ryazan region, abnormally cold weather is expected with air temperatures below the climatic norm by 7-12 degrees.

Heavy snow on December 21 will pass even in the Crimea. And from December 22 to 24, the temperature on the peninsula will also become abnormally cold: at night frosts down to minus 10-15 degrees. During the day it is also minus 3-8 degrees.
