British school apologizes to students who were kicked out to pray on the street

The leadership of the Northern Academy in the British city of Oldham was at the center of a scandal after a video appeared on social networks in which eight school students read namaz in a courtyard in a cold wind, MailOnline reported. According to one of the students, he and his comrades performed namaz in a room specially designated for prayer, but then the teacher came and kicked them out. “We have had a prayer room for a long time, and the teachers always allowed us to visit it,” he said.

At first, the school justified its actions by saying that several classrooms were damaged by flooding, and this room was needed for other purposes. But after the representative of the city council Aruj Shah intervened in the conflict, the leadership of the educational institution made concessions. “When we learned about what happened at the North Academy, we immediately contacted the school to find out the details of what happened. Fortunately, the directorate assured us that they have already apologized to the students and are preparing to send a written explanation to their parents, ”he said.

“We would like to sincerely apologize. We are proud of the diversity of cultures in our school and will never forbid students to pray or expel them to do this on the street, ”- said in his address the press secretary of the Northern Academy.
