A voluntary team of firefighters-nuns appeared in Ukraine

Nuns and novices of the Holy Trinity Motroninsky Monastery have created a volunteer fire brigade in the village of Melniki, Cherkasy region, the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said on Facebook.

“In the newly created fire brigade, five volunteers, Abbess Ilaria, two novices of the monastery Larisa and Christina, and two drivers of a fire truck will go out to the calls,” the message says.

The fire brigade will be responsible for fighting fires in the monastery itself, as well as seven neighboring villages and two settlements.

The reason to organize a volunteer fire brigade was the remoteness of the monastery and the villages from the nearest fire station - 20 kilometers.

Earlier, a fire occurred in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The flames engulfed building No. 68 on the second floor of a two-story building, where an icon painting workshop is located, and spread to the roof. In the course of the fire, three people were injured, and one of the victims received fractures when he jumped out of a window.
