The omicron strain 2-3 times increases the risk of infection on the plane

Russia (bbabo.net) - The International Air Transport Association warned that the omicron strain increases the risk of infection on the plane by 2-3 times. This was stated by the chief medical consultant of IATA, David Powell, quoted by the Bloombe agency.

"Since the introduction of the omicron option, aircraft passengers are two or even three times more likely to contract COVID-19 while in flight," Powell said.

Powell said this becomes especially dangerous during the New Year and Christmas holidays, when many people use air transport services. The expert also added that in this regard, business class can probably be safer than economy class, since seating there is more rare.

The situation is even worse, Powell noted, at airports, where ventilation is ten times worse than in the cabin.

"The salon is not a sealed box, we pressurize it by creating a huge air flow at one end and installing an exhaust valve at the other," the expert explained.

According to the WHO, the omicron strain has been found in 106 countries of the world. The organization notes that this variant of the coronavirus affects, as a rule, young people.
