Australia: Samurai sword used as three brothers try to kill man, court hears

THREE brothers nearly killed a man from the APY lands with a samurai sword, a large kitchen knife and a metal pole, a court has heard.

Arthur, Colin and Kevin Treloar, aged 34, 24 and 21, have each pleaded not guilty to one count of attempting to murder Atu Campbell in the front yard of his niece’s Port Augusta home in March last year.

Opening the trial today, prosecutor Mark Norman said Kevin, who was in a relationship with Mr Campbell’s niece, and Arthur Treloar had unsuccessfully tried to provoke Mr Campbell into a fight before going to a nearby unit and arming themselves with the weapons.
He said the three brothers, all from Port Augusta, then returned to the house on Carlton Pde and inflicted horrific injuries to the back, head, arm and wrist of the unarmed Mr Campbell as he tried to flee.

“After that all hell breaks loose,” Mr Norman said.
