Russia - Ministry of Education does not plan to extend winter holidays due to COVID-19

Russia (bbabo.net) - The Russian Ministry of Education does not plan to extend the winter holidays in schools due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated by the head of the ministry Sergei Kravtsov, noting that the regions themselves can make such decisions based on the epidemiological situation.

"Regarding the extension of the holidays - this is not planned, we are not discussing this issue," - TASS quotes the minister. As for the early holidays, he added, then each region decides for itself.

Kravtsov recalled that the Moscow authorities recommended that schools go on vacation from December 27. Such decisions do not affect the curriculum in any way, since the end of the year is basically a repetition of the material already passed.

The minister also noted that there is no need to make December 30 a day off for teachers, as it was in 2020. According to Kravtsov, last year there was a corresponding epidemiological situation, this year "there is no such severity, so here each region decides on its own."

Earlier it was reported that the Moscow Department of Education and Science recommended that city schools go on New Year's holidays until January 9 from the last Monday in December, December 27. "Earlier, the extension of the autumn holidays showed that the two-week separation of children is extremely effective for breaking the chain of the spread of the coronavirus," the department explained. It is also known that from December 27, winter holidays will begin in schools in Chuvashia.
