Only the Animals by Ceridwyn Dovey looks at war through the eyes of creatures

The book author, Ceridwyn Dovey , was born in South Africa, schooled in Sydney and a former resident of Boston (where she studied social anthropology at Harvard) and New York, Dovey has now settled with her family in Sydney.

Her book looks at pivotal moments in historical conflicts through the eyes of animals caught up in them — a parrot living in Beirut that plucks out its feathers during the Israeli bombing of the city; a mussel that hitches a ride on a battleship bound for Pearl Harbor, a german shepherd during the Third Reich, a dolphin during the Gulf War and two bears, the last animals to starve to death during the 1992 siege of Sarajevo.
