"According to preliminary data, today at noon, due to unfavorable meteorological conditions on the 49th km of the Ufa-Orenburg highway, an accident was registered with the participation of more than 30 cars," TASS message from the prosecutor's office of Bashkiria. According to local media reports, the cars were moving along the P-240 highway from Orenburg to Ufa. The cause of the accident is still unknown.

One person died, five were injured - all of them were hospitalized in the Ufa hospital №21, a source in the republican prosecutor's office said. The Ministry of Health of Bashkortostan reported that one of the victims was in serious condition. The rest were admitted to the hospital in a state of moderate severity. "The diagnostic process is underway," added the press service of the republic's ministry.

The prosecutor's office of the Karmaskalinsky region establishes all the circumstances of the incident, assesses the observance of traffic rules and road activities. The work of local authorities, who are responsible for safety on this federal highway, is also checked. The district prosecutor Aydar Islamov left for the scene. He will coordinate the actions of emergency services and assist in checking the mass accident.

Damir Zhdanov, an eyewitness to the accident, said that the consequences of the emergency could have been worse if not for the initiative of the drivers.

“The big accident was avoided thanks to the drivers who started signaling with their hands about the need to stop 1 km away, thanks to them. We stood in the traffic jam for about an hour, ”he said.

Zhdanov managed to pass this section of the road only thanks to a detour on the opposite lane. "Visibility on the roads is about 100-200 m", - noted the car owner.

Later, on the 191st km of the same highway, in the Meleuzovsky district, 11 cars collided, the traffic police of Bashkiria reported. They also followed in the direction of Ufa. There were no casualties, the cars were mechanically damaged.

Unfavorable weather conditions

Due to a strong snowstorm, 30 cars with about 50 people were stuck on the 1203 km of the Moscow-Chelyabinsk highway (in the Orenburg region). From 1194 to 1251 km of the road, traffic is limited. The situation is about the same on the Bashkir highways. Thus, on several sections of the R-240 and M-7 Volga routes, the movement of passenger buses, trucks, minibuses, and taxis is limited.
