World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus spoke about what needs to be done to defeat the pandemic in 2022. He wrote about this in his article in Izvestia.

“This requires that all countries, working together, reach the global goal of vaccinating 70% of the world's population by mid-2022,” Gebreyesus writes.

In order to defeat the coronavirus, he said, vaccine "nationalism" must be eliminated, when rich countries build up an excessive supply of vaccines, leaving nothing for the poor countries of Africa. He noted that these are ideal conditions for the emergence of new strains, as happened with the omicron in South Africa.

The head of WHO said that in 2022 all countries will discuss a global agreement to combat the pandemic. He explained that such an agreement is needed to strengthen governance and funding mechanisms, as well as the systems and tools that the world needs to prevent, prepare for, detect and respond to epidemics and pandemics.
