More than one billion young people at risk of hearing loss

In its latest report, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1.1 billion of young people worldwide may be at risk of hearing loss, and more than 43 million people from 12 to 35 years old complain on bad hearing.

Main cause: loud music

According to the WHO, nearly half of young people between 12 and 35 years old, who reside in high and middle income countries are exposed to extremely high noise levels. It happens during concerts, in night clubs or through the headphones of an audio device. Such prolonged exposure can cause irreversible damage. Dr. Shelley Chahda, (WHO) has warned that "more and more young people are at risk of hearing damage, they should be aware of the fact that hearing never returns".
