Russia - Named a vitamin that saves from heart attack and dementia

Russia (bbabo.net), - Lack of vitamin B12 is fraught with a high risk of infectious diseases, the development of Alzheimer's disease and heart attack, said professor, specialist in internal medicine Osman Erk.

The doctor noted that absorption of B12 decreases with age due to physiological reasons. There are studies showing that patients with dementia and Alzheimer's have decreased levels of this vitamin. In addition, B12 helps to reduce the risk of a heart attack, it is necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system and the functioning of the immune system.

In an interview with Sözcü, Erk said that B12 is not synthesized in the human body and is found only in products of animal and plant origin. However, modern farming methods have led to a decrease in the population of soil bacteria that synthesize B12. Because of this, the vitamin has become scarce in products that hit store shelves. To fill the deficit, Erk advises paying attention to the liver, seafood, trout, herring, mackerel, eggs, milk, yoghurts and cheeses.

Erk warned against excessive and thoughtless use of preparations containing vitamin B12 "for the prevention of dementia" - they can be taken only if necessary, after consulting a doctor.
