A strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Tuesday afternoon northeastern Colombia with shakings even in the capital Bogota, with no casualties, according to the first assessment from the authorities.

"For now, there is no person affected by the earthquake in the country. We remain staying alert," said President Juan Manuel Santos in a message posted on his Twitter account.
