A man armed with a submachine gun took several people hostage at the Indiana University hotel and convention center in Bloomington, according to the Intel Point Alert Twitter account dedicated to the incidents in the United States.
A warning about a "dangerous situation" came at approximately 20:10 ET (4:10 Moscow time).
“A hostage situation unfolding at the Student Union Complex at Indiana University. Negotiators work with an armed man. The number of hostages is unknown, ”the message says.
The intruder barricaded himself in the hotel building. So far not a single shot has been fired.
The hotel guests are currently being evacuated. Students are encouraged to stay indoors on campus.
Earlier, a man armed with a knife took two women hostage in Paris and held them for 17 hours. According to the Parisian police, the man suffers from a mental disorder and has not received long-term treatment for a long time. He claimed to have been a victim of poisoning and demanded a meeting with the Minister of Justice of France, Eric Dupont-Moretti.
