WHO tracks new coronavirus strain found in France

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been closely monitoring the new COVID-19 B.1.640.2 strain since November 2021, previously reported by scientists in France. This was stated by WHO expert Abdi Mahamud, quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We have three types of strains: Traceable, Interest and Concern. So we have been monitoring B.1.640.2 very closely since November, as well as two of its sub-variants, ”he said.

According to the expert, the organization will continue to monitor the development of this strain, including its possible spread in other European countries.

Earlier it became known that a new strain of coronavirus was found in the south of France. It is noted that a new variant was identified in people who returned to the country from Cameroon. Experts do not exclude that the causative agent of this variant of the virus is common in an African country. Tests showed an "atypical combination of mutations" - 46. The new strain was named B.1.640.2.
