A pregnant waitress could face losing her baby after an angry restaurant customer allegedly threw boiling hot soup over her in an argument about drinks.

Waitress Dong Xiao Meng was reportedly arguing with an unnamed female customer about drinking straws at the time of the incident.

Without warning, she said the customer stood up and threw a bowl of hot soup over the pregnant waitress, leaving her with burns on her skin.

The waitress told the People's Daily newspaper that the customer had taken two straws from another customer's drinks after the restaurant had run out.

Worried that the beverages wouldn't sell, the waitress asked the customer to pay for the drinks in question.

It was at this point that the argument broke out and the customer suddenly splashed the boiling broth in Dong Xiao Meng's direction, she claimed.
