Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that cases of the omicron coronavirus strain were recorded in the Russian Federation in people who did not leave the country, reports TASS, citing the press service of the ministry.

According to him, the regional authorities need to take "serious preventive measures" to combat the "omicron".

“The virus is extremely contagious, that is, infectious, it spreads very quickly. Today we see in our country not only imported cases of infection with a new strain, ”Murashko noted.

Earlier, Murashko said that in almost every fifth region of the country there is an increase in the number of hospitalizations of patients with coronavirus in whom the disease is severe.

He noted that 77% of patients with COVID-19 receive treatment on an outpatient basis, the rest are inpatient. At the same time, the minister emphasized that there are enough supplies of vaccine against COVID-19 in the regions.
