An employee of the Almaty TV channel was killed in Kazakhstan, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.

His identity was not disclosed. It is known that he was the driver of a car for the TV channel's film crew, which came under fire near the residence of the head of state in Almaty.

As a result of the incident, the journalist of "Almaty TV" was injured.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that ministry employees helped a children's sports team that was at a training camp in Alma-Ata to return to their homeland.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, during the protests and riots in Almaty, dozens of protesters were killed, and about a thousand more were injured. A representative of an international organization reminded the Kazakh authorities that force against protesters must be used in accordance with strict requirements of proportionality.

On January 5, against the backdrop of protests and pogroms in Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev appealed to the heads of the CSTO states with a request to assist Kazakhstan in overcoming "this terrorist threat."
