Russia - Patriarch Kirill: The number of educated people has grown among the parishioners

Russia (bbabo.net) - The temples of the Russian Orthodox Church, despite the pandemic, were filled with people on the Christmas holiday, and more and more young and educated people appear among the parishioners, Patriarch Kirill said during a teleconference with the cosmonauts on the International Space Station.

- Christmas is probably celebrated even more than before, but people are wary, maintain social distance and take care of themselves, - the patriarch emphasized during the conversation. - But nevertheless, the churches of the Russian Orthodox Church were filled with people.

According to him, just during the big holidays, it is clear that the composition of Orthodox people attending the church is changing: the average age of parishioners is getting lower, and many people with good education and a high level of culture appear in the church.

According to the patriarch, this is evidence that "for a modern person, faith is not an obstacle in his life, professional activity and intellectual development."

On the contrary, according to the patriarch, faith, accompanying the intellectual development of a person, protects him from big mistakes, and sometimes from crimes.

“Therefore, I am deeply convinced that the spiritual development of a person should go hand in hand with intellectual and cultural development,” said the patriarch.

Recall that the Russian members of the ISS crew took part in the Christmas teleconference: Hero of the Russian Federation, Pilot-Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation Anton Shkaplerov and Test-Cosmonaut of the Roscosmos Detachment Pyotr Dubrov.
