Israeli citizen killed during protests in Almaty

Israeli citizen Levan Kogeashvili died during protests in Almaty. It is reported by The Jerusalem Post.

According to the newspaper, Kogeashvili was 22 years old.

“The Foreign Ministry is in contact with his parents in Kazakhstan and his family in Israel and is helping to transport his body to Israel for burial,” the portal notes.

Earlier, an employee of the Almaty TV channel was killed in Kazakhstan, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.

His name was not disclosed. It is known that he was the driver of a car for the TV channel's film crew, which came under fire near the residence of the head of state in Almaty. As a result of the incident, the journalist of "Almaty TV" was injured.

Prior to that, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that ministry employees helped a children's sports team, which was at a training camp in Alma-Ata, to return to their homeland.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, during the protests and riots in Almaty, dozens of protesters were killed, and about a thousand more were injured. A representative of an international organization reminded the Kazakh authorities that force against protesters must be used in accordance with strict requirements of proportionality.
