Russian photoblogger Kotov released in Cairo

Russian photographer and blogger Arseniy Kotov was released thanks to the efforts of Russian diplomats. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission.

The press service noted that the man was returned his passport and filming equipment.

Kotov is in the consular section of the embassy. It is expected that on the night of Thursday to Friday he will leave for Moscow.

At the same time, the diplomats once again called on Russians coming to Egypt to observe the laws and honor the traditions of this country, refraining from shooting non-tourist objects and residential areas without the appropriate authorization of the authorities.

“We ask you to show respect for the local residents and their right to privacy in order to avoid unwanted incidents,” the diplomatic mission said.

The embassy indicated that in the event of a threat to life and health, it is recommended first of all to contact the consular offices.

“This is more reliable than live reporting from the scene, creating a public outcry that only hinders the prompt resolution of problems,” they noted.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said in her Telegram channel that the diplomats dealt with the fate of a Russian citizen immediately after they received information from him.

“Blogger Kotov was pulled out of prison by Russian diplomats. Blogger Kotov could really sit down, ”she wrote.

And two posts on the Russian's Instagram page describing the incident and calling for help disappeared from his page.

“Probably so as not to spoil your page with unaesthetic information,” Zakharova suggested.

At the same time, the blogger’s friend Lana Sator explained on her Instagram that the posts were hidden so that he “calmly” and “quietly” left Egypt.

Earlier, Kotov wrote on his Instagram about the attack by local residents and the attempted robbery during his walk through the city of Scavengers on the outskirts of Cairo. He said that he managed to fight back and ask for help from the police, but later he himself was detained to clarify the circumstances. According to the photographer, he called the Russian embassy five times, but no help was provided to him.

Later, the Russian consulate in the Egyptian capital stated that it was doing everything necessary to free the Russian.
