The Moscow Philharmonic will celebrate its centenary with concerts and a marathon of world stars

The Moscow State Academic Philharmonic celebrates its centenary this year. In honor of this, three concerts will be held on January 29, and a marathon of world stars will be held on January 30.

As Alexey Shalashov, General Director of the Philharmonic, noted, from the moment of its inception, the Philharmonic has always faced the need for a systematic solution of many and different tasks.

“The main among them were the creation, preservation and enhancement of that wealth and quality of concert life, without which the development of art and society is impossible,” he told RIA Novosti.

Anniversary concerts take place throughout the season, but the climax of the celebrations will take place at the end of January. The history of the Philharmonic began on January 29, 1922, and exactly 100 years later, the music that was played at the opening concert will be performed in the same BZK.

The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Simonov and the Yurlov State Capella will perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto, choral works by Ippolitov-Ivanov and Taneyev, Scriabin's Ecstasy Poem. Soloists: Denis Matsuev, Khibla Gerzmava, Agunda Kulaeva, Sergei Romanovsky, Alexei Tikhomirov.

In the evening, an anniversary gala concert will take place in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, as well as online, with the participation of outstanding musicians, including Daniil Trifonov, Yuri Bashmet, Ildar Abdrazakov, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Denis Matsuev, Maxim Vengerov, Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, at the podium which will feature two world-famous maestros - Valery Gergiev and Gustavo Dudamel.

On the same evening, the People's Artist of the USSR, an outstanding pianist, Professor Eliko Virsaladze and the State Chamber Orchestra of Russia conducted by Alexei Utkin will perform at the Philharmonic-2.

In addition, a marathon of world stars will be held in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on January 30. It will open with a performance by the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. In the evening, the famous violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and her constant stage partners Ye Yun Choi (violin), Vladimir Babeshko (viola) and Pablo Ferrandez (cello) will take the stage.

The anniversary marathon will end at 22.00 with a solo performance by one of the most titled pianists of his generation, Daniil Trifonov, who will perform Bach's Art of Fugue.

Also, the Philharmonic launched the Internet project 100.meloman.ru for its centenary. It is dedicated to the history of the Philharmonic, it contains posters, photographs, programs, documents from the archives of the Moscow Philharmonic and other Russian archives.
