We Might Have Caught The First Glimpse Of Metallic Hydrogen

Chinese and British scientists have discovered a new state of aggregation of hydrogen, as reports.

It was found that one of the most common chemical substances in the world can be converted into the metal. The production of metallic hydrogen is based on the compression technique by means of applying pressure.

After a rather prolonged time of various failures, scientists have been able to compress hydrogen at a pressure of 3.2 million atmospheres, based on room temperature.

In the middle of 20th century, scientists announced that hydrogen when compressed at high pressure can turn into a substance similar in their properties to the metal.

In this state the hydrogen molecules will cease to exist, and the protons will lose their electrons and merge into a some kind of crystal lattice. At the same time, as shown by calculations and computer simulations, hydrogen may receive superconducting properties even at room temperature or temperatures close to them, as well as a number of other interesting properties.
