ATP first responded to Djokovic situation in Australia

The ATP leadership said it welcomes the results of the court hearings, which resulted in the lifting of the ban on entry to Australia for the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic. They noted that the events that preceded the proceedings in court caused damage to all parties.

“The ATP certainly respects the sacrifices that the Australian people have had to make since the outbreak of the coronavirus and is sympathetic to the tightening of entry procedures. However, difficulties with players entering Australia highlighted the need for clearer rules. Obviously, Novak Djokovic, going to Melbourne, believed that he was granted the necessary medical exemption, which does not violate the rules of entry into the country. The series of events leading up to Monday's trial damaged all parties. We welcome the results of the hearing on Monday and look forward to several exciting weeks of tennis ahead, ”the APR said in a statement.

Earlier on Monday, the court overturned the ban on Djokovic's entry into Australia. In response to the court's decision, government lawyer Christopher Tran told the court that Home Secretary Karen Andrews can now use discretionary powers to revoke Djokovic's visa.

Djokovic on December 4 announced that he had received a medical treatment, which was approved by the authorities of the Australian state of Victoria and the country's tennis federation. After that, he traveled to Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, where the Australian Open will take place from 17 to 30 January, the first Grand Slam of the season, which he won nine times, including the last three years.

At Melbourne Airport, Djokovic was denied entry into Australia for violating antiquity requirements, and his visa was revoked. The border service did not let the Serb in because he failed to provide sufficient justification for a medical withdrawal from vaccination. The Serb was supposed to be deported, but his lawyers have appealed to a federal court against the decision to annul the visa.
