Unvaccinated Djokovic invests in COVID cure

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic and his wife own 80% of the Danish company QuantBioRes, which is developing a cure for COVID-19, Reuters reports.

QuantBioRes CEO Ivan Lonkarevich first said that Djokovic had invested in the company back in June 2020, but did not disclose the amount.

According to the Danish registry Virk, Djokovic owns 40.8% of the shares, and his wife Elena - 39.2%.

QuantBioRes employs 11 scientists based in Denmark, Australia and Slovenia. According to the CEO, they are developing a cure for COVID, not a vaccine.

A representative of Djokovic has not yet commented on this information.

Two more tennis players with vaccination exemptions left Australia

The number one ATP ranking misses the Australian Open. Previously, his entry visa was canceled and he was banned from entering the country for three years.

On January 4, Djokovic, who opposed mandatory vaccination against COVID-19, announced that he had received a medical exemption, which was approved by the authorities of the Australian state of Victoria and the country's tennis federation. After that, he traveled to Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, where the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, is taking place from January 17 to 30, which he has won nine times, including the last three years.

Upon arrival in Melbourne, Djokovic was denied entry to Australia. The border guard did not let the Serb in because he failed to provide sufficient justification for a medical exemption from vaccination.

The Serb was supposed to be deported, but his lawyers filed an appeal in federal court against the decision to annul the visa. As a result, the court sided with Djokovic, the appeal was granted, but the Australian authorities still had the right to independently cancel Djokovic's visa, which Immigration Minister Alex Hawk used on January 14. The minister said that he acted in the public interest, taking care of the health of his citizens.

The Serb was again detained, his appeal was rejected by the Federal Court of Australia, and he had to leave the country.
