“Thanks to GPS positioning, it will be possible to track how many kilometers the mushers have traveled in a day, who is in the lead, at what pace they are going,” said Alexander Zhuravlev, director of the Kamchatka Exhibition and Tourist Center.

In addition, the innovation will help make the race safer. Previously, there were cases when participants lost their way and got lost due to poor visibility.

"The escort team will be able to find the musher at any time and provide him with first aid, if necessary," Zhuravlev said.
