Six Russian hockey players passed positive tests for coronavirus before the start of the Olympics, said the head coach of the team Yevgeny Bobariko. The words of the coach are quoted by the RIA Novosti agency.
“Yesterday we wanted to have a training session, we had everything ready, but at the last moment we were forbidden to leave the territory of the Olympic village. Six people in our team received positive test results for coronavirus: Olga Sosina, Lyudmila Belyakova, Angelina Goncharenko, Liana Ganeeva, Ekaterina Nikolaeva, Diana Farkhutdinova,” Bobariko said.
According to him, the infected athletes still have a chance to play at the Olympics. Nikolaeva and Farkhutdinova are in a “covid” hospital, and four other athletes are isolated in a hotel.
Russian hockey players left the quarantine due to tests for COVID-19 in Beijing Hockey “Some even have the first negative results. Yes, this is our best strength, but we will have to deal with this problem,” Bobariko said.
20 athletes took part in the training session on February 3. “It’s difficult for us, because we haven’t played for a long time, there is no practice. We have enough players to participate in the match with Switzerland. The application has already been made, but it may change, as we do not know what the results of the next tests will be. There is nothing left for us but to rally stronger and fight for our girlfriends,” Bobariko said.
On February 2, the Russian Hockey Federation announced that the women's team had been quarantined in the Olympic village since January 31 due to positive PCR tests of several hockey players and could resume training from February 3.
On February 4, the Russians will play the first match in the tournament against the Swiss team.
