Russian skiers for the first time since 2006 won gold in the relay at the Olympic Games

The Russian women's cross-country skiing team won gold medals in the 4x5 km relay at the Beijing Olympics.

Yulia Stupak, Natalya Nepryaeva, Tatyana Sorina, Veronika Stepanova were part of the team. Their result was 53 minutes 41 seconds.

The second place was taken by the Germans (+18.2), the third - by the Swedes (20.7).

Bolshunov became the record holder for medals of the Games among domestic skiers. The 2022 Olympics Nepryaeva won silver in the skiathlon earlier in Beijing.

The last time the Russian women's team won gold at the Olympic Games in the relay was in 2006.

Nepryaeva and Stupak also won bronze at the 2018 Olympics in the relay, Stupak was also third in Pyeongchang in the individual sprint, for Sorina and Stepanova these are the first Olympic Games awards.

The Russian team won the third gold in Beijing and rose to seventh place in the medal standings. In total, the team has three gold, four silver and six bronze medals. Germany is in the lead (7-5-0).
