IOC vows to assist investigation into Valieva's entourage

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will help anti-doping authorities investigate not only figure skater Kamila Valieva, but also her entourage, said IOC communications director Mark Adams. Adams' words are quoted by Match TV.

“The environment is doctors, coaches and parents. We realized the importance of the environment some time ago. The IOC always welcomes an investigation into both the athletes and the environment. WADA has an investigative unit and has its own testing agency. In this case, we will facilitate the investigation not only in relation to the athlete, but also in relation to the environment, ”he said.

The representative of the IOC noted that "in terms of investigation in this case, as in others, there will be a very tough position."

At the same time, Adams could not explain why it took six weeks to identify a positive sample from the skater, and asked that this question be addressed to the laboratory in Stockholm.

RUSADA Launches Investigation Against Valieva’s Staff Due to Olympiad 2022 Doping Test The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) on February 11 announced the opening of an investigation into Valieva’s entourage due to the skater’s positive doping test for trimetazidine, which she passed at the end of December 2021.

The results of the test became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, in which Valieva helped the Russian team win gold. RUSADA on February 8 imposed a temporary suspension on the skater, which was lifted the next day after the athlete's appeal.

The IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed complaints with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against RUSADA's decision, which allowed Valieva to continue competing at the Games.
