This became possible due to the meeting of group B between the national teams of the Czech Republic and Switzerland, since it did not reveal the strongest in regular time (1:1), only the Czech team won in shootouts (2:1), which failed to score the maximum number of points in this game and keep the chances to catch up with the Russians. The rest of the quartet's opponents had previously lost the opportunity to get ahead of them.
In the first two games, the Russian team beat Switzerland (1:0) and Denmark (2:0).
The winners of the groups, as well as the best team from the runners-up, go directly to the 1/4 finals. All others will play play-offs for the playoffs.
