The head of the ROC admitted that Valieva's doping test was held until the Olympics

The timing of the publication of a positive sample of figure skater Kamila Valieva raises questions, it seems that she was “held” until the end of the Olympic team tournament, said Stanislav Pozdnyakov, president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Match TV reports.

“I have serious questions about the timing between December 25, when the sample was taken in St. Petersburg, and February 8, when it was made public. In accordance with international standards for the WADA laboratory, the time limit for loading an A sample is 20 days from the moment the sample is received by the laboratory. It is strange that the sample traveled from St. Petersburg for almost a month. It is very likely that someone held this sample until the end of the team tournament of figure skaters at the Olympic Games, ”said Pozdnyakov.

The ROC found it impossible to review the results of the team tournament because of the Valieva Olympiad 2022. The head of the ROC noted that he “cannot remember” such a long processing of the test result.

“In my life, as an athlete, I took samples hundreds of times, and then, as a sports leader, I saw a lot of how they take samples, while some athletes had positive ones. The fact that the sample (of Valieva) has not been opened for 1.5 months causes conflicting emotions in me. I would like to get specific answers to these questions,” Pozdnyakov said.

According to the head of the ROC, the committee supports Valieva and "helped her organize legal support."

Earlier, the International Testing Agency (ITA) reported that Valieva's doping test, which she passed on December 25 at the Russian Championship, turned out to be positive. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) imposed a temporary suspension on the skater. After Valieva's appeal on February 9, it was withdrawn by the RUSADA disciplinary committee. The figure skater was able to continue participating in the Olympics.

The problems with the doping test of the figure skater became known after the team tournament at the Olympics, which ended on February 7 with the victory of Russian athletes, including Valieva. The award ceremony was first postponed for a day, and then indefinitely. Inside the Games wrote that the reason was a positive doping test of 15-year-old Valieva.

The fact that the admission of the skater to the Olympics will be challenged, said the IOC and the International Skating Union (ISU).
