Ministry of Sports urged to show respect for Valieva amid doping scandal

The head of the Russian Ministry of Sports, Oleg Matytsin, said that the department was fully informed about the situation related to the discovery of a prohibited drug in a doping sample taken from Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Sports.

According to the minister, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) took a doping test from Valieva in December last year, and information about receiving a positive doping test result was received on February 8.

“The most important aspect of our anti-doping policy is the protection of the rights of clean athletes, the observance of the principle of the presumption of innocence and the right of an athlete to an objective trial,” he said.

The Ministry of Sports, Matytsin continued, is in constant contact with the Russian Olympic delegation at the Games in Beijing. “We will continue to provide all the necessary support to our athlete and the Russian Figure Skating Federation. We ask everyone to show respect for the young figure skater and refrain from premature comments, ”the minister added.
