Russian skiers Alexander Bolshunov and Denis Spitsov, who won gold and silver in the skiathlon at the Beijing Olympics, were awarded the title of captain. The corresponding order was signed by the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov.

“Taking into account the high sports performance achieved by the servicemen of the National Guard troops, senior lieutenants Bolshunov and Spitsov, which made it possible for Russia to provide world leadership in skiing, the next military rank of “captain” was awarded to them ahead of schedule,” the message on the National Guard website says.
