IOC made Valieva's loss a condition for awarding figure skaters at the Olympics

If Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was at the center of a doping scandal, is among the winners of the women's singles tournament at the Olympics, the awards ceremony will not be held, according to a statement on the IOC website.

“If Valieva finishes in the top three in women’s singles, there will be neither a flower ceremony nor an awards ceremony during the Beijing Olympics,” the IOC notes.

The committee also asked the International Skating Union (ISU) "for reasons of fairness" to allow the 25th skater to skate free programs if Valieva is among the first 24 skaters in the short program.

The IOC promised to organize a worthy ceremony of awarding the prize-winners after the completion of the proceedings in the case of Valieva.

CAS allowed Valieva to compete at the Olympics The 2022 Olympics Individual competitions in women's singles will take place on February 15 and 17. Russia will be represented by Valieva, Alexandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova.

On February 7, Valieva became the Olympic champion in the figure skating team tournament at the Beijing Olympics. On February 11, the International Doping Testing Agency (ITA) announced that a laboratory in Stockholm had detected the banned substance trimetazidine in a sample taken by Valieva on December 25 in Russia. According to RBC Sport sources, the substance was found in small quantities. The Russian Olympic Committee subsequently stated that Valieva's subsequent samples were "clean".

On February 8, a temporary suspension was imposed on Valieva by the decision of RUSADA, but the next day it was lifted. The IOC, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) have challenged the skater's admission to the Games, which will host individual competitions in women's skating on February 15 and 17.

The CAS away panel decided that Valieva could continue to compete at the Games. At the same time, the arbitrators did not consider the issue of violating anti-doping rules and preserving the gold medal of the team tournament.
