Valieva's representative appreciated the decision of the IOC on the awards ceremony

Representatives of Kamila Valieva are surprised by the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which decided not to hold the awards ceremony in figure skating at the Beijing Olympics if Valieva is in the top three. This was stated to RIA Novosti by Anna Kozmenko, a partner at the Swiss law firm Schellenberg Wittmer, which represents the interests of the 15-year-old figure skater.

Valieva at the 2022 Olympics won gold as part of the Russian team in the team tournament, and also performs in individual competitions, where she is in the lead after the short program held on Tuesday.

For the same reason, the awards ceremony in single skating will not be held if Valieva is in medals.

“Of course, we were surprised by this decision of the IOC, because the independent panel of CAS arbitrators, who listened to the case for several hours and which considered the full arguments of all parties, satisfied all of Camila's demands, namely to dismiss the appeals of the IOC, WADA and allow her to continue compete on a par with other participants,” said Kozmenko.

Valieva as part of the Russian team won the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics. After the end of the competition, it became known that in her doping test, taken back in December last year, they found a prohibited substance - trimetazidine (used to treat cardiac problems, but banned from athletes since 2015).

Valieva had to seek admission to the personal tournament in Beijing through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed appeals against the figure skater's admission to the Games, but the CAS exit panel took the side of RUSADA and allowed Valieva to compete in the individual tournament.
