Olympic medalists from Russia and Ukraine embraced after the competition

Russia (bbabo.net) - Silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics Ukrainian Alexander Abramenko, who brought his country the first award in Beijing, and bronze medalist Russian Ilya Burov embraced after the end of the competition, once again proving that sport is meant to unite people.

Four years ago, in Pyeongchang, the Ukrainian became the Olympic champion, and Burov took third place. And the athletes took pictures, hiding with the flag of Ukraine. Then Abramenko said that he had friendly relations with many rivals, including those from Russia.

On the eve of the current Games, Ukrainian sports leaders forbade their athletes to stand next to their Russian counterparts. Abramenko then promised that he would not shun the Russians on the pedestal and kept his word.

Last summer, at the Tokyo Olympics, Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchy also posed for a picture with the champion of the Games, Russian Maria Lasitskene. A joint photo of the athletes then caused a mixed reaction in Ukraine.
