IOC President meets with US skaters amid situation with Valieva

IOC President Thomas Bach held a meeting with the US figure skating team, which became the second in the team competition at the Olympics, said the organization's communications director Mark Adams. Adams' words are quoted by Match TV.

“We received information that today Bach met with representatives of the American team, but the content of their conversation should remain between them. We also contacted the Japanese National Olympic Committee and they told us that they fully support the IOC's approach. We have not met Japanese athletes. There were no disputes or claims. I don’t want to multiply rumors and gossip, there are enough of them in the media,” Adams said.

Adams added that he thought "Bach himself wanted to meet with the athletes to hear what they want and what they disagree with."

“I can double-check, but I’m almost sure that the IOC took the initiative. The Japanese said that everything was fine with them, that they agreed with the policy of the IOC and the meeting was not needed, ”said Adams.

The figure skater from the United States put Valieva as an example of Biles with "legal doping" Olympics 2022 The winner of the team tournament was the Russian team, in which Kamila Valieva performed. The second place was taken by the US team, the third - by Japan.

After the end of the competition, it became known that a banned substance was found in the doping test, which was taken from Valieva back in December. She has not yet pleaded guilty to an anti-doping rule violation. Valieva had to seek admission to the individual Olympic tournament for women through sports arbitration.

The IOC eventually canceled the awards ceremony following the results of the team tournament, and also announced that if Valieva gets into the winners of individual competitions, medalso not be awarded.

The IOC has promised, in agreement with the athletes concerned and the NOC, to "organize a worthy awards ceremony" once Valieva's case is completed.
