Olympic flame extinguished in Beijing

The fire of the Winter Olympic Games has been extinguished in the capital of China. The closing ceremony of the Olympics was held at the Beijing National Stadium, known as the "Bird's Nest".

The ceremony included a parade of athletes and the handover of the Olympic flag to the hosts of the next Winter Games. Beijing Mayor Chen Jining handed over the flag to IOC President Thomas Bach, who presented it to Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sale and Cortina d'Ampezzo Mayor Gianpietro Hedina.

At the end of the ceremony, the Olympic flame was extinguished, which was in the center of a giant snowflake, on which all the countries participating in the Games were indicated. After the fire was extinguished, fireworks began.

The Russians in Beijing won a record number of Winter Games medals for the country - six gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. The most successful at the Beijing Olympics was the Norwegian team with 37 awards, including 16 gold.
