Zhurova called Russian skiers the main characters at the Olympic Games

Russian skiers have become an indicator of what athletes should strive for at the Olympic Games. This was announced to RBC Sport by State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova.

“I was very pleased with our skiers at this Olympics. They showed us everything that every athlete in the Olympics should strive for. Yes, there were offensive fourth places, where a few hundredths of a second were missing from the podium. But at the same time, they made a huge contribution to the team standings,” said Zhurova.

Zhurova called Bolshunov the Russian king of skiing Olympics 2022 Zhurova also noted that the public needs to pay more attention to the development of skiing in the country.

“I would like to say thanks to Elena Vyalba, who turned this story around. If earlier there were some kind of medals, but there was no feeling of satisfaction from silver and bronze medals, here you are, gold ones. We didn't even expect it to be like this. Relay races are a very important indicator for any country, as they show the development of a sport in a particular country. The entire public should pay more attention to the development of skiing,” Zhurova summed up.

The Russian cross-country skiing team won 11 medals in cross-country skiing (four gold, four silver and three bronze).

In men's individual events, Alexander Bolshunov brought two gold medals, one silver and one bronze to the Russian team. Denis Spitsov and Ivan Yakimushkin left Beijing with silver medals, and Alexander Terentyev with bronze. Also, Russian skiers (Alexander Chervotkin, Alexander Bolshunov, Denis Spitsov, Sergey Ustyugov) became the first in the ski relay.

Natalya Nepryaeva took the silver and bronze medals in women's individual events. Yulia Stupak took bronze in the team sprint. In the relay race, Russians consisting of Yulia Stupak, Natalia Nepryaeva, Tatyana Sorina, Veronika Stepanova came to the finish line first.
